How to Use MetaMask for Cross-Chain Swaps

A beginner's guide to setting up MetaMask and using it for cross-chain crypto swaps on Clypto.

MetaMask is the most popular cryptocurrency wallet for Ethereum and EVM-compatible blockchains. It's available as a browser extension (Chrome, Firefox, Brave) and as a mobile app (iOS, Android). MetaMask allows you to store, send, and receive ETH and ERC-20 tokens, as well as interact with decentralized applications (dApps).

To get started, install MetaMask from metamask.io (always verify the URL to avoid phishing). Create a new wallet and securely store your seed phrase — this 12-word recovery phrase is the only way to restore your wallet if you lose access. Never share it with anyone.

Once your MetaMask wallet is set up and funded, you can use it to swap on Clypto. Visit app.clypto.com and click 'Connect Wallet.' Select MetaMask from the wallet options, and approve the connection in the MetaMask popup.

With MetaMask connected, select the tokens you want to swap. For example, to swap ETH to SOL, select ETH as the source and SOL as the destination. Enter the amount, review the quote (including the exchange rate and network fees), and click 'Swap.' Approve the transaction in MetaMask.

While MetaMask is primarily an EVM wallet, Clypto's cross-chain routing handles the complexity of swapping to non-EVM chains like Bitcoin, Solana, or Cosmos. You send from your MetaMask wallet and receive native assets in your destination chain wallet. The entire process is non-custodial and typically completes within minutes.
